The Furniture Solution

Making extensive use of BIM, Deanestor manufactured and installed fixed, bespoke furniture items across the school, including floor and wall mounted units with sloping tops, a sink, shelving and tray units for each of the 28 classrooms.

Breakfast bars with sink and worktops were provided for the nursery as well as storage cabinets, and kitchenettes were manufactured for the staff room and for a Life Skills Room, complete with hobs, ovens, extractors, microwaves, fridges and freezers that were procured and fitted by Deanestor. All the furniture was installed in just 15 weeks.

The storage units had stone grey MFC carcases, laminate doors in a maple finish and grey Trespa work surfaces, providing a durable finish for a school environment. In the cloakrooms, the shelving, hooks and benches with shoe box storage units were manufactured by Deanestor.

Other items supplied and fitted by Deanestor include teaching aids such as white boards and pin boards, and mirrors in the toilet areas.

Design Ethos

This exemplar school has created a light-filled and airy space which has been carefully planned to maximise children’s opportunities for learning.

A soft, contemporary palette of colours has been used throughout the school providing a calm environment for learning while echoing the landscapes that surround it. Open plan spaces enable shared learning alongside quiet and more private spaces and meeting rooms.

The Customer Perspective

Derek King, Managing Quantity Surveyor, Morrison Construction:

“This project went very well. The new school is a fantastic learning environment for children. The Deanestor team had a very supportive and collaborative approach, particularly in addressing any issues that arose. They were also able to accommodate any changes to the furniture design to meet the client’s precise requirements.”

Lisa Rubython, Architect, JM Architects:

“The Deanestor fixed furniture provides efficient storage and compliments the semi-open plan classrooms which are arranged around courtyards with a high level of internal glazing. Overall, we are really pleased with the project which is one of Scotland’s largest primary schools and the use of BIM was invaluable in co-ordinating the client’s furniture requirements for manufacture.”
