Deanestor Awarded Its Largest Education Furniture Contract - £3m Project for Inverurie Campus

Deanestor, one of the UK’s leading furniture and fit-out specialists, has been awarded its largest ever contract in the education sector. The £3m project is for the manufacture and supply of furniture, fittings and equipment for the new £55m Inverurie Community Campus – one of the largest school construction projects in Scotland.

The contract is Deanestor’s third school project for principal contractors, Robertson Construction.

Due for completion early in 2020, the project for Aberdeenshire Council is being delivered by community infrastructure company hub North Scotland and will accommodate 1,600 pupils. It will provide a range of amenities for the wider community, including a youth café, community centre, six-lane swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, and other sports facilities. There will be multiple community spaces, creative hubs, dispersed dining areas and learning plazas, as well as state-of-the-art teaching facilities.

Designed by architects Halliday Fraser Munro, the campus will also be home to St Andrews School for children with special educational needs.

Deanestor will furnish and fit out 360 rooms across the campus in just 26 weeks, including science, food and design technology departments, specialist SEN facilities, general teaching spaces, sports and changing areas, reception, library and offices. The room layouts will reflect the latest thinking in curriculum delivery and colours will be bright and modern throughout with an interior design scheme that links all internal learning spaces.

Fitted furniture manufactured and fitted by Deanestor for the new campus will include 1,950 metres of shelving, 670 metres of laminate and laboratory worktops, 400 base and wall storage units, bag stores, over 80 teaching walls, and more than 500 items of metalwork. 60 serviced units with power, data or water supplies are being designed and manufactured by Deanestor for the laboratories.

Commenting on the project, Iain Loud, Senior Design Manager at Robertson Construction, said, “Deanestor met all our requirements for quality, cost, experience and strong financial stability. This is a fast-track project which needs an open and collaborative approach. Deanestor is happy to work with our client to develop the most appropriate level of specification within the available budget.”

“Deanestor’s furniture and fitting-out contract at Bertha Park School, which is nearing completion, has gone very well and feedback about their site team has been hugely positive to date. Their design team has been terrific, very committed and happy to go above and beyond when needed to meet client needs.”

Ramsay McDonald, Managing Director of Deanestor Scotland, said, “We are delighted to be working on such an exciting and much-needed community scheme. The scale and complexity of the campus and the range of facilities we are fitting out demonstrates our capabilities and expertise in furniture manufacturing, procurement and project management. Our designers are working closely with the design and construction team to implement the contemporary theme for the multi-purpose spaces and to deliver a really inspirational and innovative environment for learning and teaching.”

Deanestor is supplying and installing around 6,000 other items for the Inverurie project including tables and chairs, retractable seating for a performance studio, 375 locker units, soft seating, changing facilities, mirrors, teaching aids, sinks and around 100 white goods.

Other items supplied by Deanestor range from machinery for craft, design and technology; sports equipment and fitness machines to sensory items for the SEN school such as padded walls and floors, fibre optics, ball pit, trampolines and a water bed.

Deanestor provides high-quality contract furniture solutions to construction clients and contractors for healthcare, education, student accommodation, build-to-rent and laboratory projects – both new build and refurbishment. It offers bespoke design services to meet specific project requirements and is responsible for installation to provide a seamless approach for its customers and a single point of contact.
